BurJuman: A Centre for Art and Culture in the UAE

Dubai, 3 July 2006: In association with the Dubai Naturalization & Residency Department (DNRD) and as an integral part of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), BurJuman, the definitive destination for high-end shopping in the Middle East, will be hosting a week long 'celebration' of art and culture this week.

As part of Art Surprises - which runs between June 29th and July 5th - the mall will be playing host to various art-orientated events which will include an exhibition of paintings from the Emirates International Student Creativity Contest and educational 'Global Art Stations' from the UAE, Morocco, Syria, Jordan, India, Pakistan and Egypt.

In addition to live statues and KungFu 'challenges', there will also be performances from the legendary Spanish dance group, Los Rancheros on June 30th, as well as extensive entertainment on offer for children, encompassing a puppet show on July 2nd, a 'Kids Artist Workshop' on July 3rd and a 'Kids Art Competition' on July 4th.

'Art and culture are extremely important to the BurJuman ethos and we are therefore pleased to be bringing this exciting art collaboration to the UAE,' said Sabina Khandwani, head of PR and Marketing, BurJuman.

'The event promises to be more than just an educational enterprise. It is set to be an amazing visual spectacle that will engage, delight and captivate art lovers and art enthusiasts of all ages,' Khandwani added.

'In addition, we also have an exciting competition which will run for the duration of the promotion" she concluded.

Finally, as part of its efforts to reach out to the less fortunate children in the UAE, BurJuman has also set up a special 'Shatoor' tent, where shoppers can get Arabic henna tattoos, get their faces painted and buy items for sale, with proceeds going to the Beit Al Khair orphanage.
